Refuge4Pets – Case Study

Giving a voice to a vital cause.

Refuge4Pets is a specialist charity providing temporary animal fostering services to people escaping domestic abuse across Devon & Cornwall.  Founded in 2017, the charity recognises a devastating but often overlooked reality: for many people experiencing domestic abuse, concern for the safety of their much loved animals can be a significant barrier to leaving.

This case study was created to reflect on the process that Pushed and Refuge4Pets took to bring this important and sensitive subject to life through animation.  Domestic abuse is an incredibly difficult subject to communicate, and the people and animals supported by Refgue4Pets cannot simply become the faces of a traditional marketing campaign.  The charity needed a way to explain its work, raise awareness of the connection between domestic abuse and animal abuse and reach a wider audience without compromising the privacy and safety of those it supports.

Animation doesn’t just make complex subjects easier to understand.  Sometimes the stories that are hardest to tell are the ones that most need to be heard.
