Imperial College London – Faculty of Natural Sciences

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Imperial College London couldn’t hold their graduation ceremonies in person but wanted a way to honour and mark the successes of their newest graduating cohort. Because the graduation and commencement ceremonies were held online in order to stay in line with current government guidelines, Imperial college London approached Pushed to create this animation as part of a series of opening animations for their different faculties. Due to the global lockdown, no live action shots could be filmed for use in the video, making animation a perfect medium to fit the intended purpose of the required opening sequence. Additionally, because online graduation ceremonies were such a new concept at that time in the lockdowns, Pushed was able to use their  imagination to create clips for a purpose that had not existed the year before.

The colour scheme used is reflective of Imperial College London’s colours, which were also used in additional projects that the university commissioned Pushed to create for the 2020 graduation ceremonies, including promotional materials. The abstract animation style was created by the Pushed team using Adobe Illustrator, Premier Pro and After Effects, and this style was also consistent with other videos and intro clips created for Imperial College London’s 2020 graduation. The result is an effective, visually appealing way to introduce the faculty of Natural Sciences for the unprecedented virtual graduation ceremonies of Imperial College London.
