Imperial College London

This opening sequence was designed for Imperial College London’s 2021 graduation ceremony. The combination of live action drone shots overlapped with motion graphics keeps the viewers attention as they take in the coloured waves that direct their focus to the Royal Albert Hall, which is where the graduation ceremony took place. The animations enrich the live action footage without taking away from the standalone beauty of the Royal Albert Hall and the surrounding buildings. The bright colours of the animation create an air of excitement and expectation for the big day, while also blending into the live action shots in a manner that enhances the anticipation and regal beauty of the footage panning over the streets and architecture of Imperial College London. The music only enhances these feelings, resulting in a beautiful opening title sequence to honour the graduates of the university as they embark on the next big chapter of their lives.

Imperial College is the only UK university to focus entirely on science, technology, engineering, medicine and business (STEMB). This adds to their international reputation for excellence in teaching and research which sees them consistently rated in the top 10 universities across the globe. Due to their status, the College has developed strong links with a number of institutions worldwide, which allows students to experience different cultures and help them develop their careers internationally. This opening title sequence seeks to honour and communicate this legacy of Imperial College London while also celebrating those former students who would be attending the graduation ceremony, which was the first one back in person following several years of virtual celebrations due to the worldwide COVID-19 shutdowns.
